Houston African-American Faith-Based Mental Health Conference

Join Alliance for Greater Works™ in collaboration with the HOGG Foundation for Mental Health, ten-churches* from across the State of Texas, and Prairie View A&M University, as we convene a one-day power-packed African-American Faith-Based Mental Health Conference. The goal of this conference is to help African-American churches identify, support, and strengthen the mental well-being of families, congregants, and communities. This inaugural conference program will be offered in two cities:

  • Saturday, September 17, 2016, 9:00 – 3:30pm (8:00 a.m., registration, continental breakfast, and exhibitors) – Windsor Village – KBC, 6011 West Orem Drive, Houston, TX 77085, and
  • Saturday, November 5, 2016, 9:00 – 3:30 p.m. (8:00 a.m., registration, continental breakfast, and exhibitors) at Concord Church, 6808 Pastor Bailey Drive, Dallas, TX 75237.

The conference theme is Peeling Back the Layers: Tools for Healing the Hurt. The conference will be offered free of charge to the anticipated four hundred church and community leaders. A $20 registration fee is required from social workers, LPC, and other professionals requesting CEUs.

The conference program will open with a moderated Panel discussion, African-Americans and Mental Health: Suffering In Silence. The program will also offer five interactive learning tracks throughout the day including Clergy, Caregiver, General, Justice System, and Youth. The Luncheon speaker will be Dr. David R. Williams of Harvard University. Dr. Williams will address The Role of the African-American Church in Mental Health. Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.
